In 1989 the first Luminox watch was born. These watches are Swiss made, but the company was begun by two American businessmen. Employing a unique illumination system, with a Swiss watch mechanism, this watch was first developed for the active sports market, but was later rebuilt to meet the rigorous specifications as on the request of the U.S. Navy SEALs. This was the Original SEAL Dive Series I. Every Luminox watch uses a self-powered system of illumination powered by very small gas lights. These allow the watch to glow continuously for 25 years. With the enhanced credibility of the U.S. Navy SEALS, consumers correctly reasoned that if it were good enough for one of the world’s most elite military forces, it surely was good enough for their recreational uses.
